About Nadinath Nillegoda
Nadinath’s passion for discovery has led him on an incredible journey around the world, immersing himself in diverse cultures and scientific environments. His latest adventure has brought him to the beautiful and vibrant country of Japan!
He earned his B.A. in Zoology, majoring in Genetics with minors in Chemistry and Microbiology, from Ohio Wesleyan University, USA. He then completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and New York University, USA. Following this, Nadinath pursued postdoctoral research at the Center for Molecular Biology (ZMBH) at Heidelberg University, Germany, supported by an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship.
Nadinath’s research centers on protein quality control pathways that maintain cellular proteostasis — the delicate balance of protein homeostasis. His group is at the forefront of the emerging field of primate proteostasis, pioneering investigations into how primate-specific adaptations in the proteostasis network influence cellular repair mechanisms after protein damage. Their work offers new insights into human diseases associated with protein aggregation and aging.
